In Norfolk’s Climate Action Plan, the City committed to reducing carbon emissions while increasing the installation of renewable energy projects throughout the City. By considering the development of a multi-acre solar PV array at the site of the former Campostella Landfill, the City will be expanding its participation in the energy of the future and the lower electric prices and job creation associated with it.
The City has the following prioritized goals for the project:
1. Advance the community’s environmental sustainability and leadership goals
2. Optimize land use for municipal property such as landfills or brownfields.
3. Reduce energy bill costs for residents through a possible community solar project.
4. Increase revenue for the City through a land lease.
